Elections
City Bond Election
Saturday, September
13th!
The City of Bastrop held a bond election for
needed improvements and additions on September 13th. Voting was at
City Hall, 904 Main Street. All five propositions
passed.
The five propositions on the City Ballot were:
-
Proposition 1- $2.06 million for expanding the Bastrop
Public Library.
(expanding the Library from 6,000 square feet to 19,000 sq. ft. to improve
the overcrowding and desperate need for more space)
-
Proposition 2- $545,000 for purchasing land and
improving parks.
(improvements to Fisherman’s Park, Mayfest Park, and Kerr Center Park;
help create a new community park on donated land and provide public access
to the Colorado River at a fourth park).
-
Proposition 3- $5.6 million for street and drainage
improvements.
(reconstruct streets and drainage on 19 streets throughout the city)
-
Proposition 4- $350,000 for downtown parking
improvements.
(this will provide funds for additional parking and alley improvements to
keep downtown commercially viable)
-
Proposition 5- $2.2 million for constructing a new city
hall.
(this will finance a new City Hall on Chestnut St. and house different
city departments in a central location and encourage more commercial
redevelopment in this area of town)
Mayor Tom Scott wrote a thorough three part
discussion on this Capital Improvement Plan Bond election in the Bastrop
Advertiser. This excellent discussion shows how this five year Capital
Improvement Plan was arrived at after long planning and public discussion.
