Bastrop though fighting to the final minute fell short in a game when fumbles and penalties at crucial times prevented them from winning. LBJ scored on a long drive in the First quarter on a Kahill Thomas 7-yard run. Jessie Martinez kicked the extra point for a 7-0 lead. Bastrop followed on a long drive with Calvin Hendricks scoring on a 2 yard run. PAT was good by Jose Sanchez and the quarter ended 7-7 . The 2nd quarter ended scoreless after several long drives by Bastrop failed. In the 3rd quarter the only score was a 27-yd field goal by Jesse Martinez of LBJ. The quarter ended with LBJ leading 10-7. The Bears after a long drive scored on a 1-yd run by Benjamin Flores giving the Bears their 1st lead 13-10 with 7:16 left in the game. LBJ regains the lead on a 17 yd run by Deandre Wytaske and a PAT giving them a 17-13 lead with 5:54 left. The Bears fail to convert on a 4th down try and LBJ’s Kahill Thomas runs on the next play for a 63-yd touchdown and a 24-13 lead with 2:00 left. Bastrop will score the last touchdown on a long pass and then a 2-yd run by Benjamin Flores. With 20 seconds left Bastrop tries an on-side kick with LBJ recovering and the game ends 24-19 in favor of LBJ. Bastrop led in total yards 364-307, passing yds 157-66, LBJ led in rushing yds 241-207. Calvin Henricks was Bastrop’s leading passer with 147 yds. Bastrop’s leading rusher was Jovahn Jones with 94 yds, followed by Dalton Thomas with 65 yds. Leading pass receivers were Adonis Davis and Micah Manor each with 56 yds.
