Bastrop continued its winning ways with a close 23-19 win over the Connally Cougars. The Bears scored on a 6 yd pass from Josiah Monroe to Mustafa Akbar to take a 7-0 lead. Connally’s Jacoby Sanders countered with a 94 yd kickoff return to tie the score. Kicker Kevin Del Aguila for Connally kicked 3 field goals in the 2nd quarter to give the Cougars a 16-14 half time lead. Monroe’s 32 yd touchdown pass to Auston Shipley gave the lead back to the Bears 20-16. Del Aguila then kicked a fourth FG to bring the score to 20-19. With less than 6 minutes left in the game, Lee McMillan kicked a 43 yd field goal that gave the Bears a 23-19 lead. But Connally wasn’t through until they fumbled and Kyle Myers recovered for the Bears with less than 2 minutes to go to give Bastrop the 23-19 victory.
