Opening the game with a 97 yard drive, Hays scored to take a 7-0 lead. In a 16-play drive taking about 8 minutes, Clayton Rogers tossed a pass to Brandon Lawrence for a 21 yard touchdown. After stopping Bastrop in its first series, Rogers scored on a 6-yard run and a 14-0 lead. There was no scoring in the second quarter. Hays scored again on another long drive starting the 3rd quarter. Going 88 yards on the drive, Lawrence caught a 22 yard pass from Rogers giving Hays a 21-0 3rd quarter lead. The Bears scored on a 54-yard 4-play drive with Dominic Brown scoring on a 17 yard run. Lee McMillan kicked the extra point and the score was 21-7 with 8 minutes to play. The Bears tried an onside kick but the Rebels recovered. They then scored on an 8-play 51 yard drive ending in a 5 yard run by Rick DeSantiago for a 28-7 lead. The Bears were not through. They scored on a 13 yard pass from Matt Homesley to Justin Wooley with 36 seconds left. The final score was 28-14. Hays led in 1st downs 23-14, total yards 304-248, rushing 240-175 and the Bears led in passing 73-64.
