In a game of long runs played in a light rain, the Bastrop Bears defeated Belton in overtime 43-37. Belton scored on their first possession on a 68 yard run by Keith Daniels. The extra point was good and Belton took a quick 7 pt lead. Dentrey Washington tied the score on a 64 yard run and extra pt by Andrew Semer. Bastrop scored on another 20 yd run by Washington and pt after by Semer, and Bastrop led 14-7 after one quarter. The half ended 21-10 after Washington scored his 3rd TD on a 23 yd run. Belton scored on a field goal of 19 yds. near the end of the half. Belton’s Ashcroft returned the 2nd half kickoff 94 yds to bring the score to 21-17. Bastrop’s Cole Goertz then scored on a 1 yd run, but the kick failed. Robinson scored for Belton on a 40 yard run with the kick good. Washington then scored his 4th TD on a 45 yard run. The kick was good. Semer’s 33 yd field goal closed the scoring and Bastrop led after 3 quarters 37-24. In a dramatic comeback, Belton scored twice in the 4th quarter on a 1 yd run by Robinson and 21 yd run by Daniels with 34 seconds left in the game, tying the game 37-37. The kick failed and the game went into overtime. Belton started the overtime taking the ball in close to the goal line when they fumbled. Bastrop scored on a 2 yd run by Goertz to win the game. Belton led in rushing 403-394. Keith Daniels led all rushers with 270 yards on 19 carries. Dentrey Washington led Bastrop with 214 yds on 19 carries and Damion Green followed with 118 yds on 20 carries. Michael Mills made his first quarterback start a winning one.
