Bastrop defeats Austin High 24-17

In a game that was tied at the end of each of the first 3 quarters, Bastrop scored the only touchdown in the fourth quarter to defeat Austin 24-17. Austin took the lead in the first quarter on a 7-yard run by Jeremy Smith. The Bears came back to tie the score at 7-7 when Jordan Monroe threw a 28 yard touchdown pass to Ryan Lincoln. Smith scored in the 2nd quarter on a 14 yard run. Bastrop again tied the score on a 4 yard run by Jason Klaus and the half ended 14-14. Austin took the lead in the 3rd quarter on a 37 yard field goal by Nabil Remadna. Bastrop finished the scoring in the quarter with a 44 yard field goal by Kevin Klaus. The game was tied 17-17. In the 4th quarter, the Bears drove for the winning touchdown with a Jonathan Harper 9 yard run. Austin threatened in the 4th quarter, but failed on a fourth down try with one yard needed on the Bear 20. The Bears than ran out the clock and won 24-17. The Bears led in 1st downs 22-12, passing yards 167-107, and rushing yards 214-106. Jason Klaus led Bastrop rushers with 77 yards, followed by Jordan Monroe with 52 yards.
