Bastrop Bears defeat Austin Bowie 31-28 in double overtime.


The Bastrop Bears defeated Austin Bowie 31-28 in double overtime. Bowie took the lead 14-7 at halftime after intercepting a Bastrop pass with less than two minutes to go. In the 3rd quarter the Bears came back on a 11-yard touchdown run by Jason Klaus but missed the extra point to leave Bowie ahead 14-13. Bowie quickly scored again on a 42-yard run by Trey Gideon and led 21-13 at the end of 3 quarters. Bowie went on another drive with minutes left but had a field goal blocked. The Bears then scored on a Jason Klaus 1-yard touchdown with 1:58 left in the game and was successful with a 2-point conversion pass from Jordan Monroe to Ryan Lincoln to tie the game. In the first overtime, Bastrop scored on a J. Klaus 1 yard run, but Bowie quickly countered with a 25-yard run by Eric Bishop. The first overtime ended in a 28-28 tie. Bowie had the ball first in the second overtime, and was stopped on a 3rd down quarterback sack. A field goal try was off to the right and the Bears took over. The Bears fourth down 39-yard field goal by Kevin Klaus was successful giving the Bears a 31-28 victory. The Bears led in 1st downs 24-12, rushing yards 249-186, and passing yards 79-12. Leading rushers for the Bears were Jason Klaus with 86 yards and Jordan Monroe with 92.
