The Bastrop Bears defeated the Austin High Maroons 28-17 at House Park in Austin. The Bears scored on their second possession on an 11 play 72 yard drive. Maurice Jones scored on a 21 yard run. Kevin Klaus kicked the extra point leaving the Bears ahead 7-0 at the end of the 1st quarter. The Maroons quickly scored on a 56 yard pass play. Bastrop then regained the lead on a 10 play 80 yard drive, with Ryan Lincoln scoring from the 1 yd line. Lawrence of Austin then kicked a 43 yard field goal to end the scoring in the 1st half with Bastrop ahead 14-10. The Bears scored two touchdowns in the 3rd period on a 61 yard drive in 10 plays with Lincoln scoring from the 2; then Bastrop scored on an 86 yard drive which included a 40 yard scoring pass from Jordan Monroe to Lincoln. The 3rd period ended with Bastrop ahead 28-10. The only score in the 4th period came on an 8 yard run by Dumaran of Austin leaving the final score 28-17 in favor of the Bears. Jones was the leading rusher in the game with 225 yards on 29 carries. Bastrop led in 1st downs 21-13, rushing 338-105, while Austin led in passing 185-55. The Bears next meet Austin Anderson at House Park in Austin on October 29.
